Financial Needs Breakdown 2023

librarian/facilities Salary

The current average salary in Nicaragua is $340 a month. While the costs of living rise, many salaries stay the same. Our goal is to provide our main (full time) librarian with a salary of $400 a month.

Our caretaker is currently working for us 75% of the time, and we would like to honor his hours with a salary of $300 a month.

Teacher Salaries

Our teachers are hosting 4 classes a week, and their supply needs vary per class. We would like to support our teachers with a base salary of $200 a month, providing an additionally $25 for travel expenses from the main city. We provide all teachers with $50-$75 a month for supplies, but due to a greater need in our arts/theater classes, we ask that teachers submit a budget request for approval.

Building and New Project support

Power, water, and general maintenance of our building costs an average of $200 monthly. We would like to maintain a fund not only to pay these bills, but to remain covered in case of emergency.

In 2024, we will be breaking ground on large rancho for the community. It will serve as a meeting host for the local Parent Teacher association, an area for important community celebrations, and a space for all theater productions. This new construction will require the demolition of an existing structure, land leveling, and a significant concrete pour. We are awaiting the estimate, but anticipate between $15,000-$20,000 dollars.

supply support

Recent regulations from Nicaraguan custody officials have made it more difficult to travel with donated classroom supplies and books. Therefore, we will have to purchase most of our supplies in country, where there can be significant mark ups. Our currently supply budget is $200 a month, and we would like to increase it to $350 a month. This increase includes:

  • needs of theater classes for quarterly performances

  • supplies for our monthly adult practical skills classes

  • additional books, paper, pencils, student notebooks etc.
